Asia Now, Paris, 2024

17.–20.10.2024

We are pleased to announce our participation in Asia Now, from 17 – 20 October, at booth S04, where we will be dedicating our booth to a solo presentation of Paul Pfeiffer.

The highlight of the booth are five of Pfeiffer’s most iconic works from his photographic series “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”, first created in 2000 and premiered at the Whitney Museum of American Art. In this series Paul Pfeiffer is manipulating images of sports legends in the environment of the arena with the crowds in the background. All contextual details are removed, the figure is moved to the centre, as if the shot was composed around it, floating as if frozen in time. The title refers back to the woodcuts of Albrecht Dürer, and is simultaneously the biblical reference of the figures that appear at the point of Armageddon.

This iconic selection will stand in dialogue to a sculpture from Pfeiffer’s “Incarnator” series, which began in collaboration with Bellas Artes Projects in the Philippines. The “Incarnator” sculpture channels the Santo Niño de Cebú, one of the most revered devotional icons in the Philippines, through the image of pop superstar Justin Bieber, whose persona has been transformed into an unmistakable symbol of 21st-century capitalist values.
